Pietro is a Swiss-born cinematographer whose work spans continents and genres. A graduate of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, he has spent the past 25 years shaping stories globally from the United States to Europe, India, and beyond. Born in 1976 in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, he has become widely recognized as one of the country’s leading Directors of Photography.

His cinematography has earned numerous accolades, including nominations for Best Cinematography at the Swiss Academy Awards in both 2021 and 2013, Best Cinematography at Cinespaña in Toulouse, two Kodak Awards, Best Cinematography at the British Independent Film Festival, the Saiff in New York, and the Hollywood Student Film Festival, among others. He also received a special mention from the American Society of Cinematographers for outstanding student cinematography for his AFI thesis film.

Pietro is an active member of the European Film Academy, the Swiss Film Academy, and the Swiss Cinematographers Society.

In recent years, Pietro has expanded his creative focus to directing. Since 2022 he has been developing several projects, with the dark comedy  GRAVE set to be the first feature film to enter production in 2025, (Pitch deck available below), and CHERUBS a dark comedy short that is having a great festival career right now (trailer available under the director’s page).

With decades of experience, a distinctive visual sensibility, and a career marked by international collaboration, Pietro continues to bring bold, dynamic storytelling to screens around the world.
